Good Neighbours

Being Good Neighbours

We sing of God’s good news lived out,
 a church with purpose,
 faith nurtured and hearts comforted,
gifts shared for the good of all,
resistance to the forces that exploit and   marginalize,
fierce love in the face of violence,
 human dignity defended,
We sing of God’s mission.
from A New Creed: The United Church of Canada

The Cherry Park Neighbourhood

Calvary has a long tradition of caring for others. While continuing to support M&S as an effective way to help our neighbours in other parts of the world and in other parts of Canada, we are keenly aware of our immediate neighbourhood and ways that we can act as good neighbours in the Cherry Park area. Who are the people living and working in the Cherry Park neighbourhood? There are several major institutions close by:
  • Kitchener Collegiate
  • King Edward and St John's Elementary schools
  • Grand River Hospital,
  • the Regional Cancer Centre
  • the Waterloo Regional Withdrawal Management Centre,
  • the McLaren Arena
  • four churches,
  • the Catalyst 137 Tech Hub
  • the beginnings of a very large transportation hub with nearby housing a short distance away along King Street.

Park and Glasgow Streets

Some folks who live in the area are long-time residents, some are transient, others  are newcomers to Canada, and many are people attracted by the proximity to the schools, hospitals and transportation, all a short distance away. Calvary is situated in a very diverse neighbourhood any way you measure it.

Even without a community centre building to call home, the Cherry Park Neighbourhood Association  is able to provide a wide variety of activities for residents in the neighbourhood. Calvary is able to offer some of the space they need to run their programs. Visit their website to keep up-to-date with their activities. It can be found at http://cherrypark.blogspot.com/
